MYRTLE BEACH RESERVATIONS

March 7-14, 2015
Beach tournament offers
special room rates for fans

The Wesley Wolverines participation in the upcoming Fastpitch Dreams Classic tournament, North Mytle Beach/ Little River, SC, will be the week of March 7-14, 2015.

View from the beach of Avista Resort
where Wolverines will be staying.
The Wolverine team will be staying at the the Avista Resort, 300 North Ocean Boulevard, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The tournament has arranged accommodations at special rates for family, friends, and fans through this link: www.avistaresort.com

Of course, there also are many different hotel search engines for other options available on the web.

The “junior” Wolverines, l-to-r, starting at top:
junior #8 OF Steph Caracozza (Melbourne Beach, FL),
junior #6 MI Breanna Hartman (Red Bank, NJ),
junior #2 OF Sarah Saunders (Wayne, NJ),
junior #32 C/3B Kayla Fromal (Middletown, DE),
junior #25 1B Samantha Mahoski (Schenectady, NY),
junior #22 C/UT Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, DE)
Last year, all of the Wolverines games were played in North Myrtle Beach. That appears to be the plan again this March, according to the field locations listed at the tournament site. See: www.fastpitchdreams.

For game times throughout the day see: www.fastpitch

Note that there is a difference between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach itself. The two SC towns are adjacent to each other and about a half hour or more by car (lot more if traffic!) apart from the dead center of each other.

If you plan to be a spectator at the games, it is probably best to make early reservations. Often there is more than one college tournament held during this time in the Myrtle Beach area. Rooms can fill up.

EARLY SCHEDULE

First game, home, Feb. 22
Early peek at Wolverine
2015 softball schedule

Below is an early, preliminary glance at what looks to be the full 2015 Wesley Wolverines softball schedule.
IMPORTANT: Rain or other circumstances can change dates, so please base all planning now and throughout the season only on the official schedule that will be posted at the Wolverine website as we approach closer to the game dates.
Top, L-to-R, & bottom right: Wolverine Co-Captains
junior #6 MI Breanna Hartman (Red Bank, NJ),
junior #32 C/3B Kayla Fromal (Middletown, DE),
junior #22 C/UT Morgan Seymour (Smyrna, DE).
Bottom left: 2014 Wolverine MVP sophomore
#18 C/3B Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE).
All game dates are doubleheaders except the Myrtle Beach tournament, where, last year, the Wolverines played 10 games against 9 schools. If this hold true again this season, the 2015 regular season schedule should total 42 games.

Interesting to note... ● First game is at home, Sunday, February 22 … ● There are 16 games (8 doubleheaders) to be played at home on the Reynolds DuPont Field, Dover, DE … ● The first Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) game will be away against the always tough and always ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls on Wednesday, March 25 … ● The Wolverines will play 10 straight away games (5 doubleheaders) in 4 different states (MD, PA, NJ, VA) from March 25 through April 4 … ● Then, from March 25 though April 11, the full conference schedule will be completed in 7 of 9 consecutive doubleheaders … ● The longest home stand will be 8 games (4 doubleheaders) in just 6 days from April 6 to April 11.

So, here's the early peek at the Wesley Wolverine 2015 softball season. Links to each college's or university's softball website are provided below.

CAMP DEADLINE

Wolverine sports for visitors
Softball camp sign up
has Saturday deadline

The date for the Wolverine Softball Skills and Prospect Camp is fast approaching.

Softball camp

The softball camp will emphasize mechanical and
technical skills which includes hitting, fielding,
pitching/catching and base running
The Wesley Wolverine softball skills event will be held all day Saturday, November 22 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Westly West Fieldhouse and its adjoining field.

The deadline for sign up – which was sold out last year – is this coming Saturday, November 1.

This camp is designed for skilled softball players who wish to advance their level of play as well as showcase their abilities for Wesley college coaches. The current Wesley softball squad will assist with the day's program.

Visitors with attending players can catch a few of the workouts at the Dupont Softball Field. But no visitors, spectators, or family members will be allowed at the indoor sessions.

There's plenty to do, however, in and around the Dover area
for a camper's visiting family and friends.

One excellent suggestion is Wesley Wolverine sports!

Wolverine football

The softball camp fee includes a Wesley Wolverine football ticket should the team have a home game that day at Scott D. Miller Stadium, sitting behind the DuPont Softball Field.

Wesley's football team set a new school
record for points in a game this past
weekend with a 75-12 victory over
Virginia University of Lynchburg.

Now that may or may not happen. It could be an off day for the Wolverine football as the team will have concluded their regular season the week before and prepare for a berth in the NCAA play-offs.

Should you be one of the very few who do not know about Wesley Wolverine football, you need to catch up on one of the most exceptional teams in the nation.

The Wolverines are currently 8-0 on the 2014 season, averaging over 52 points per game, and ranked #4 among Division III colleges nationwide. They also are ranked the #1 Division III team in the East by the Eastern College Athletic Conference's (ECAC's) Lambert Meadowlands football poll. These Wolverines routinely compete against colleges and universities with student bodies significantly larger than Wesley College's undergraduate class.

The football team has advanced to NCAA Playoffs nine-straight seasons – soon a certain 10th invitation this year, while winning 22 NCAA Playoff Games during this time that includes five National Semifinals and three NCAA Quarterfinals. In this period, a Wolverine player has been selected to the AFCA All-America Team every year, which is currently the longest-active streak in the nation and one of the all-time Division III record for consecutive selections.

A Wolverine football game is always a guaranteed exciting few hours of gridiron action.

Wolverine basketball

As football winds down, Wolverine basketball is just starting up!

During the softball camp, Wesley basketball
takes on the Washington College Shoremen
in the  Wentworth Gymnasium.
In the heart of campus, during the afternoon sessions of the softball camp, the Wesley Wolverine men's basketball will be playing their fourth game, second at home, of the 2014-15 season. This contest is against Washington College Shoremen, a school located across the Maryland border, just 35 miles west of the Wesley campus. Game time is 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 22, in the Wentworth Gym.

As the season gears up in two weeks, Wolverine hoops are tied for #27th in the nation among DIII colleges, according to the early preseason D3hoops.com men's Top 25 poll. That's not surprising after these Wolverines posted a program-best 23-4 record last season to pick up a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) regular season title and the college's first-ever NCAA Basketball Tournament victory.

There are no bad seats for a Wesley basketball game with every fan close to the court's action.

Leadership. Teamwork. Perseverance. Discipline. Grit. Who knew, as children playing games in the schoolyard, that we were gaining attributes that would guide us through life?

Athletes have known it all along.

Research shows a direct correlation between girls’ participation in sport and greater achievement in higher education and employment — in fact, a majority of leading female executives first found success in athletics...

Brazil President Dilma Rousseff played volleyball.

The first female head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, was a member of the French national synchronized swimming team.

CHIPOTLE FUNDRAISER

Monday, November 10
Wesley softball fundraiser:
50% of proceeds benefit program

Here's a great Wesley Wolverine softball fundraiser at a local area Chipotle Mexican Grill if you reside in the vicinity of Dover, Delaware.

Dover's Chipotle, just off the Wesley College campus, is one of the Wolverines' favorite restaurants.

Wolverines gather in the circle before the start
of  a Spring Break game at North Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina. Proceeds from fundraisers help
offset the costs of travel and the
overall softball program.
On Monday, November 10
from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Chipotle's Dover location,
the grill will donate 50%
of the costs of your order to Wesley Wolverine softball team!

However, you MUST PRESENT the official FUNDRAISER FLYER, either on your cell phone or a printed copy, BEFORE making your purchase to ensure the donation goes to the
team.

Chipotle is a popular place – a hot spot for hungry undergrads – on Route 13 in Dover, De. Students and Kent County families alike regular frequent its casual dining at very reasonably prices. The grill features a unique method of building burritos, tacos, salads and other specialties tailored to the individual tastes of its customers. As you watch your food prepared, you can add or “hold” any ingredient from salsas to cheese to spicy barbacoa or fajita vegetables and more for a meal exactly the way you want it. There's a kid's menu, too!

Important: Please do remember that you must present the fund raising flyer to ensure 50% of your meal's costs goes to Wolverine softball!

Wolverines play hard in upward to
40 seasonal games while maintaining
full time collegiate studies.
Proceeds will benefit the Wolverine softball program, especially the late winter “Spring Break!” trip to sunny South Carolina.

Last year, when the team traveled deep into the south, 10 games were played in 6 days against 9 different colleges or universities from across the East Coast at a brand new sports complex in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The Wolverines came home with a 7-3 record.

So, if you live near the Wesley campus and Dover's Chipotle or can easily get there, please circle this date on your calendar for the big fund raising event: Monday, November 10, between 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Bring family and partners, friends and neighbors, relatives and in-laws, fellow students, professors, even players and coaches from other Wesley teams to Chipolte's that evening for the fund raising dinner.
