For week of March 30, 2015: Wesley Wolverine junior #2 OF Sarah Saunders (Wayne, NJ). Congratulations!

Over the past 9 games – since Sunday, March 22 – Sarah has tallied 13 hits over 25 at bats for a .520 average. For the season, Sarah stands #1 in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) with 13 stolen bases, while her .475 batting average ranks #3 in the league.

Regardless, like their feisty mascot whose offensive/ defensive strength is out of proportion to its size, our Wolverines contend in a conference where they are matched against colleges and universities 3x, 4x, even 5x their size and always deliver a great showing for the Wesley College campus.

You can now add back-to-back weeks of top conference player recognitions onto the Wesley Wolverine's 9 game winning streak and 29 scoreless innings allowed.

Last week, junior #8 OF Steph Caracozza (Melbourne Beach, FL) picked up both the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week awards.

Today, sophomore #12 P/MI Lindsay Siok (Milford, DE) was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week. It is the first time in the history of Wesley softball that a Wolverine hurler has been so honored.

WBOC NEWS ITEM

TV news feature
Look for Wesley Wolverines 
on the central Delmarva airwaves

A television station has taken notice of the 10-1 Wesley Wolverines.  

WBOC-TV, based in Salisbury, Maryland, conducted interviews with Wolverines today and shot the team working out at the Wesley West gym.

To learn what was said during the interviews, blog readers will have to watch for the feature on WBOC News, which may be broadcast next week or later. If available, the segment also will be posted at this blog. Though WBOC shot a large part of the Wolverine workout, typically much film is left on the cutting room floor when broadcasters put together the news report that eventually appears on air.

The sequence of pictures posted in the slideshow below -- click on the arrow in the green box to view photographs -- begins with locker room interviews from local players sophomore #9 P/OF Lily Engel (Dover, DE) and sophomore #12 P/MI Lindsay Siok (Milford, DE) as well as Head Coach Juli Greep. Then the WBOC camera moves into the field house to shoot the Wolverine's Friday afternoon practice.

Who among the Wesley Wolverines roams deepest in center field? Steph? Lauren? Maybe Lily? 

JOSE MARCANO behind centerfield, 

North Mytle Beach Sports Complex.

It's none of the above. Just look past the outfield fence in dead center and most often you will find Jose Marcano, father of sophomore #18 C/3B Nina Marcano (Middletown, DE), snapping pictures of the play action. 

Jose usually has his finger pressed on burst mode to capture every subtlety of a swing and race to the base.

At last week's Fastpitch Dreams Classic tournament, Jose shot more than 2,000 photographs (no kidding!)

WESLEY WOLVERINES CELEBRATE at Senor Frog's, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after opening the softball season with 8 wins, 1 loss, at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic, March 8-13, 2015. For the week, the team batted .385 with 99 hits (8 doubles, 10 triples, 1 home run) and 77 runs (vs. opponent’s 22 runs). Pitching tossed a 2.14 ERA with 38 Ks, while holding opponents to a .279 average.
