Eventually I would like to settle down and focus on starting a family with my husband. I also plan to meet Derek Jeter and be a season ticket holder for the New York Yankees.

Rally towels, shaved heads,
now glasses show school pride

The list is long of special props brought by fans to games to support a team. There's rally towels, homer hankies, the “we're #1” oversized foam index-finger, not to mention, of course, team caps, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and posters. 

Even shaved heads!? (More about that in photo caption below.)

Now there's a brand new one. Glasses. That is, fans wearing glasses. Large glasses. Large glasses without lenses. That's what can be seen throughout the stands at any Lafayette Ragin Cajuns softball game. 

It is the fans demonstrating support for the team and the young lady in the circle, Christina Hamilton, the pitching phenom with glasses!

GOING BALD: There are a several young WOMEN in the crowd with shaved heads. 
This, apparently, is a long-standing tradition for Gallaudet freshmen, who shave 
their heads after dyeing their hair bright colors for a semester.

Christina Hamilton has been wearing glasses while throwing heat since high school. Her record last season, amid multiple awards, was 29-4 with a 1.56 ERA in 237.1 innings hurled, so the glasses are nothing she plans to change anytime soon. She does, however, pitch with the lenses removed.

THE DATES for the games run 6 consecutive days from Sunday, March 8 through Friday, March 13.

THE WOLVERINES PLAY 8 GAMES against 7 opponents of which 6 were also on last year's schedule. Against these six in 2014, the Wolverines were 5-1. The teams that Wesley will face are from 4 states: Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New York. 

Two new teams in the opposing dugout this March will be the Gettysburg College Bullets and Hilbert College Hawks.

ALL GAMES WILL BE HELD on the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex's softball fields, Little River, South Carolina.

Last year, the Wolverines played the Panthers twice – first and last games of the beach schedule – dropping the first game 6-3 but coming back to win the second contest 11-0. 


► MONDAY, two games, March 9th

9:30 am Suny Canton Kangaroos, Canton, NY. (Field #2)

The Wolverines defeated the Kangaroos 14-2 in last spring's Fastpitch Dreams Classic.

 11:30 am Bay Path College Wildcats, Long Meadow, MA. (Field #3)

The Wildcats were strong opponents last season, though the Wolverines ultimately triumphed 8-6 in the single game played. 
   
► TUESDAY, two games, March 10th

1:30 pm Baptist Bible College Defenders, Clarks Summit, PA. (Field #5) 

The Chargers scored all their runs in the 6th inning against Wesley at the beach last year, but it was not enough as the Wolverines picked up the victory 4-3.

11:30 am Gettysburg College Bullets, Gettysburg, PA (Field #6)

 New to the Wolverines' schedule, the Bullets might prove the most challenging opponent at the beach.

► WEDNESDAY, one game, March 11th

11:30 am Hilbert College Hawks, Hamburg, NY (Field #5)

Facing the Wolverines for the first time, the Hawks look to improve on a 4-21 record from last season.

► THURSDAY, one game, March 12th

3:30 pm Cazenovia College Wildcats, Cazenovia, NY. (Field #2)

Wolverines scored 15 runs on 14 hits against the Wildcats last spring.

Tokyo 2020
Softball organizations urging
your vote now for Olympic games

The website insidethegame.biz that covers world sports is running a poll about which new event should be added to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 

Both the ASA Facebook and the WBSC Facebook pages are encouraging softball players, coaches, fans and supporters to cast a ballot for “baseball/softball”.

In order to vote, you do have to listen to the first few seconds of a commercial. You can vote one time per day.

Softball last appeared in the Olympics at the 2008 Beijing games. Whether or not softball is added back again will be up to a newly formed seven-member "Tokyo 2020 Additional Event Programme Panel" who will begin their discussions in early February. Because of the popularity of softball in Japan, many fans are extremely hopeful that softball will be reinstated.

Other sports under consideration are karate, squash, skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and roller sports.

WESLEY WOLVERINES COMPETING IN THE EXCITING SPORT OF SOFTBALL. 

Adding softball to the Olympics, softball great Jennie Finch argues, “would further encourage and promote women's participation in sport at all levels and give women more opportunities to be empowered through sport.” 

The 2012 London games was the first time every country sent at least one female athlete. That must improve and softball is definitely a prime vehicle to do it. 

Softball is increasingly popular worldwide; the recent World Cup of Softball games were broadcast in as many as 140 countries!

What I hope to do when I graduate: Move to New York City where I also plan to start my career at a television news station. And, hopefully, I will go on to graduate school. 

My passion on the field: Pitching is something that I have always worked on and something that I want to keep getting better at. I am always trying to improve for myself and the benefit of the team. The feeling after a well-pitched game is incredible.

Things I like to do: Besides playing softball, I mainly just hang out around campus with my roommate or softball teammates.

What I did last summer: Worked as a Guest Services Representative at the Dover Mall and played in a few softball tournaments.

Best Advice I’ve received: “Woooosaahh”. My coach used to say this to me whenever I would get frustrated back in 7th grade, and I still say it to myself if I need confidence or to calm myself down.

It was a 2013 fall-ball contest at Wesley's duPont softball field against the 
crosstown DI Delaware State University Hornets.

What I like best about college: I love the freedom that college gives me. I am able to manage my time the way that I want to.

My favorite spot on campus: My favorite spot on campus is my room because I like to do my homework as comfortably as possible.

What I did last summer: Last summer I spent a couple of weeks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where I was able to go fishing and see a different way of life. I then went home, to San Diego, where I spent time with my family who I had not seen for months.

Best advice I've received: “Who are you when no one is watching.” I received this advice from my favorite high school teacher, Ms. Long. This means, that even if no one is watching you, do everything to your full potential as if someone where watching you.
